St. Louis Cemetery
Please remove grave decorations by Friday, March 29, 2024.
As you remove the decorations, considering offering a prayer for the souls in purgatory or for people who may have no one praying for them.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

The old St Louis Cemetery was behind the present St Louis School and was used until 1903. It was replaced that year by the present St Louis Cemetery which is a half mile east of this location because the old cemetery was "low and wet and upkeep was difficult. ... The old cemetery monuments were removed and buried in a pond... Today there is one monument on the old Cemetery plot that tells and marks the graves of those buried there so long ago." (from the History of St Louis Church).

St. Francis of ASSISI Shrine & Garden of LIfe
Through the grace of God and in the intercessions of St. Louis and St. Francis of Assisi, the St. Francis outdoor shrine at St. Louis cemetery underwent an extensive clean-up and the weathered statue was replaced. On October 4, 2018, the feast day of St. Francis, Fr. Walter blessed the new granite statue and the simple Garden of Life.
The statue of St. Francis is beautifully carved from a solid piece of granite and will withstand the Ohio weather. The Garden of Life was inspired by the Encyclical (letter) of Pope Francis, Laudato Si`: On Care for our Common Home. The plants in the garden are native to the area and will do well to attract the birds and butterflies as well as other creatures. The plants were grown and donated specifically for our garden and it was designed to bring color and life throughout the seasons.
During the warmer months of good weather, we will gather at the shrine to offer the Rosary and enjoy the serenity.
Thank you to the volunteers who put in hours to clear the trees, pull up a lot of weed mat, rake tons of stone (literally), place mulch, and clean the marble. It was a large task but it certainly was long overdue and well worth the efforts. Without the generosity of financial donations, donations of plants, and labor, the St. Francis Shrine would’ve been removed. Now, it is once again, a lovely place for reflection and prayer to be enjoyed for another 20 years or more.
St. Louis, King of France, was a co-patron of the Third Order of St. Francis (now known as a Secular Franciscan Order). Because of his compassion for the poor and the suffering, he is honored as a member of the Order.
St. Louis, King of France, pray for us! St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
